Overview

McIvor Construction Management was proud to lead the construction of the new flagship location for Remenyi House of Music, a legacy brand with more than 130 years of history in Canadian music retail. This 12,000 square foot retail space was designed to be both functional and inspiring, a space where music, craftsmanship, and customer experience come together.

A Complex Relocation with Zero Room for Error

The project involved relocating the business from its long-standing home near the University of Toronto campus into a newly designed facility, with minimal disruption to daily operations. Timing was critical. Every delay had the potential to affect revenue and customer access.

Our team developed a detailed phasing plan that allowed operations to continue as long as possible at the old site, while coordinating the new build with precision. This included managing permit timelines, working closely with designers and trades, and implementing just-in-time material deliveries to reduce congestion on site.

Built for Sound, Built to Last

This wasn’t just another retail space. The acoustics, layout, and finishes had to reflect Remenyi’s premium brand. From climate-controlled display rooms for delicate string instruments to custom millwork and showroom lighting, quality was non-negotiable.

We collaborated with acoustic consultants and specialty fabricators to ensure that every element— from flooring to ceiling treatments—would enhance the musical experience while withstanding high traffic and long-term use.

Proactive Problem Solving

Challenges included integrating new mechanical systems into an aging building, resolving elevation discrepancies, and meeting aggressive move-in deadlines. The McIvor CM team anticipated issues before they became delays, offering practical, cost-effective solutions to keep the schedule on track without compromising on quality.

Results That Resonate

The result is a beautifully finished, high-performance retail environment that reflects the legacy and future of Remenyi House of Music. The space is not only built to meet today’s retail demands but also crafted to serve generations of musicians to come.
